Gettin' locked out is no fun

Well, I was so glad last week was over when the weekend came. It was sad to see my mom go on Sat. night but she couldn't stay forever.

I was having a pretty ok weekend, had a good breakfast with my cousin and a great shopping trip to Target and then the fun ended later on at home. My lovely Samantha decided it would be really cool to lock the sliding glass door while I was out BBQing our dinner. This is how it went:

She wakes from her nap and I give her some attention and then mommy's gotta prepare dinner. We were having barbecued short ribs (they looked SO good at the store) and some mac n cheese. So I decide to multi-task and put the mac noodles on to boil. I cover the ribs in sauce and let them sit for a bit then the coals are ready, so I go out to put the meat on the grill....

I turn around to go back in and there's lovely Sam looking at me through the glass door. Yeah, not only looking at me, but pulling down the lock on the closed door. She just learned this trick so she doesn't know how to UN-lock yet.

I try to get her to unlock it by pushing up on the lock thingy. Yeah, she's not interested in that. She goes to play. ALL of my other doors and windows are locked up tight. It's been like 100 degrees where I live so the AC is blasting and everything else is closed.

I don't know what to do. No phone, not even shoes on! My step son is gone already w/ a friend of his overnight. I go to one neighbor--no answer. I run to the neighbor next door--his elderly mom is there and has no phone. I go to the other next door neighbor and ask him to call me a locksmith. He comes over w/ a phone book & his cell phone. 1st company I call tells me to call the cops. I call another, they say they'll page the locksmith (incidentally, the locksmith there STILL hasn't called and it's Monday!). After waiting for what it seems like forever (Sam is now at the dining room table climbing up on a chair and coloring w/ her markers) my neighbor asks if I have AAA. I say yeah, but do they unlock house doors? He says no, they can let you into your car & you can do the garage. YES!!!!

I call AAA and they're sending someone out from like 10 miles away. 10 miles doesn't seem too long but in my area w/ traffic, it's forever. Especially when your 21 month old is wreaking havoc around the house and you're left outside to look in at her.

Anyway, I tell AAA to have the guy honk since I am out back sorta babysitting my baby. I thought I heard the doorbell ring. Thought--that's kinda lame but I'll look anyway. No tow truck driver but I notice we have a dog door on the garage side door. We never ever use this and it came w/ the house so never thought twice about it.

I go to the 1st neighbor again and ring the bell. Lucky for me it's his skinniest kid answering the door. I ask if he thinks he can fit through the dog door (med. size dog door). He tries and GETS IN. He unlocks the deadbolt on the side door and again I can get into my house! My daughter is up on top of the kitchen table now.

Remember the mac noodles I was boiling? yeah, can you say BURNT to a crisp? My whole house was full of nasty smelling smoke. Samantha was unaffected it seemed. She was just happy to be on top of the kitchen table which mommy never lets her do for safety reasons of course.

Remember the ribs I had put on the grill that looked sooooo good? Yeah, those were little black hockey pucks by the time I was in. The dog ate them. He was happy.

We went out to eat at the Italian restaurant near us. We only have like 2 choices and I had already been to IHOP for breakfast. Didn't wanna go for both of my meals there yesterday. The guitar player at the Italian place was really nice to Sam, it was cute.

My house STILL smells like burnt food. NASTY! I put carpet fresh on the carpets and that only alleviated a bit of the smell. I got to go to work so I can't be home all day airing the place out you know? Oh well.

Note to self: Keep a damn key outside somewhere. If you're reading this and you have an active small child, you'd BETTER learn from this and keep a key nearby outside or w/ a neighbor or relative. It is somewhat funny, but in reality it was extrememly stressful. I am lucky Sam didn't get hurt or anything. I was planning for the worst looking in at her. I had decided if I had to, I'd have broken my bathroom window since she wouldn't get hurt by flying glass there and it's cheaper than trying to fix a big ass sliding glass door.

At least it didn't cost me anything to get into the house. I need to reward the neighbor kid huh? :)

Pleeeease! No more

arrest warrants! I am going nuts! I am sick of waking up before the crack of dawn every friggin' morning and sitting on someone's house or transporting prisoners or trying (not too successfully, mind you) to communicate to someone in Spanish, looking for their relative they say no longer lives there.

At least it was only for a week. It has been a long one though, I must say. Got off early today. Think I'll be able to hold to sanity for a short while longer because of it. And the IHOP pancakes that are in my stomach at the moment. Man, those are really good. I wish I could make pancakes that tasted as good as that.

I am trying to plan my time and be strategic about attempting to get something useful done while the kids are at school/daycare. I can't seem to come up w/ anything I am willing to do that needs to be done. A nap sure would be great. I shouldn't though. My mom is writing a term paper so I don't wanna bother her. I would go shopping but can't think of anything I need. Maybe I'll just go to Target and mill around. I might spend too much $ there, sounds like a good idea, no?

So busy

I don't even have time to eat, think or anything else. Work is making me earn my salary. I can't wait until this week is over.

Weekends are too short

This past weekend flew by, I can't believe it. My mom is out here helping me out with the kids while we go round up undocumented (aka illegal) people (aka aliens) who are also sex offenders. This morning I had to be to work early and we did not catch any of our 3 targets. Maybe we'll have better luck tomorrow.

I love my mom to death but I've realized my house gets a lot messier with her there. Turn about is fair play I supose. I probably made quite a mess at my parents' house growing up. It's nice having the help with Samantha since she's so active and curious and wears me out.

Really nothing too interesting to talk about I guess. I can't really give too many details about our current operation at work so in that case, I'll just close it off here and hopefully have something more interesting to say some other time!

My house is a mess

and my mom's coming out today. Why is it I feel compelled to clean my house extra well if my mom's coming? I guess it because I don't want her to think she raised a pig for a daughter? I mean, mom's don't really judge right? I still feel as though it should look as good as it possibly can.

My dilemma is that I have NO time to do this. Got to go to work today. Bummer. Maybe I can sneak out early? He he....

Boy, what a boring post! Complaining about my house....sheesh!

I KNOW SOMEONE WHO'S PREGNANT!

It's not me! My cousin who's also like my BF just called & told me she's PG! YAY! I am so excited for her. I swear I thought they'd never have another one cause they're self-employed and insurance is not only very expensive for them but it's also really crappy. Costs them a fortune to have a kid. Not like my Pacificare HMO + DH's Navy ins. you know? Samantha was free, which was great :) If I had another one, they'd be free too. But I am not. It seems as though so many ladies now are PG, it's crazy. Sometimes makes me wanna have another but I can't w/ my job. My job is not understanding at all when it comes to little kids at the home. Oh well. At least I got Samantha out of it all.

I am really excited though she's adding onto our extended family and now I'll get to hold a new baby again and love a new baby all over again too!!! It's going to kill me as much as her to wait until like December to find out what she's having! Arrrgh, I hope it's another girl. :) GIRLS ROCK!!!

Mommy I need help please!

I was so happy that I no loonger have to go to trial next week & then my boss had to throw something else at me. Since I am free next week now, I am now tagged to help w/ a big operation involving some immigration stuff and have to be at work hitting doors by 6AM every day next week (which is probably good since it's hot as hell here and we're wearing full tactical gear. Good for winter, bad for summer). You ask how does one do that when they have a 10 yr. old and a 1 1/2 year old at home & their husband's out of town? I'll you how it's done...you call your mommy! My mom is the best. I wish she lived closer. She lives in VA and I'm in CA. She is going to fly out here tomorrow to stay w/ my kids all week. I mean help out. What a godsend! My daycare lady doesn't do early mornings + what would I do w/my other kid anyway that early? He can't go to school at 5AM you know?

Thankfully my mom's not working at the moment, she's just going to school trying to get her 2 Master's degrees finished. I think she is a little crazy for that, but that's just me.

Thank god for moms!!!!!! ;)

One of my coworkers is retiring tomorrow after 20 yrs. as an agent. He looks SO worn down. Will I look like that 14 yrs. from now when I retire? I hope not. I envy him, I wish it were ME who was retiring!

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whoo hoo! My guy plead out today so I don't have to go to court on Tuesday! I am so happy!

Too long?

I wonder of my posts are too long? Not that many people probably read this, but I don't want to bore anyone to death. I am just getting into reading other blogs and I like what I see! Some are really creative. Many have short posts too. Maybe I should start doing that. As I said, I am new at this blogging thing....

AHA! I figured it out!

I am so proud of myself! I actually figured something out on this blogger thing a few min. ago. I wanted to make a list of blogs I wanna read and I took all the addresses from a site I go to with a bunch of great ladies on it. I got it finally! So, if you come here every once in awhile, which I feel sorry for you cause I am sure I am boring you to tears-you'll see some other blogs that are most likely far more interesting than this one. I have to admit I have not read all of them yet, but I am going to. Very soon. Time for Dayna to go beddy bye now, it's getting late.

Ugh, I hate work sometimes...

For real, I mean c'mon! This trial that's coming up is KILLING me! I really shouldn't complain though, our computer forensics guy is working harder than I am and he's not complaining. Now I feel bad. I just feel like we have no time to get all the crap done that we need to. It's 1 week away. I got all my witnesses lined up I think. One from TX, 1 from WA, 1 from NY and the other from MA. They seem like really nice guys, I am looking forward to meeting them and learning from them. That's the good thing about the trial I guess. Networking. I need it. Makes me feel a little more important and useful. I am breaking new ground w/ my coworkers since none of them have ever had to go to trial yet w/ a child porn case. Like I said before, we're gonna really crush this guy in court. His dumbass of a defense atty. came into my office today & saw the pictures we plan to show the jury. I didn't sit in with him, our computer forensics guy did. I want nothing to do with him and + he's a pompous ass and I know I'd get mouthy w/ him as I have very little patience for that kind of thing. Apparently he was not aware that his client had that bad of stuff. Yeah, well if he'd pay just a little attention to his client then he would've known a long time ago. Also, if he kept his appointments with our agency he would've found this out last week. Stupid defense attorney! Again, I apologize if that offends anyone. He really is though.

On to other things now...the trial is probably SO boring to read about!

I started reading a new book. Yep. It's really good too. I read 72 pages of it last night, no joke. It's called A Wolf At The Table by Augusten Burroughs. I have never read one of his books before this one. I saw it advertised in People Magazine of all places in May and have wanted to read it ever since. I am too lazy to type up a synopsis of it, but if you look it up on the 'net, you'll find it. It's a memoir book, non-fiction. Let's just say after reading this, I'll never complain about my childhood ever again.

There's really not much else happening. How boring of me. Samantha is amazing me with new words or phrases every day. She is growing SO fast. She is such a joy. When she's being good. Just kidding! She really IS a joy to me all the time.

I feel like a bad daughter. I forgot to send my Father in Law and my Step dad's Father's Day cards. I called my step dad but he didn't answer & I left a msg. I did not call my FIL. Not that I don't like him, but my DH was going to call him from overseas so I hoped he would do the work for both of us. I finally called my own father at like 6PM on Sunday. Bad bad girl I am....I need to send those damn cards out but the work thing is really getting me all screwed up. I usually have time to mess around at work and get personal stuff done but not right now. Yikes!

Well, guess that's about all for today. Sure am glad tomorrow's Wednesday already. I am sure my US Attorney will have more impossible tasks for me to accomplish as usual lately. Lucky me huh? :)

TTYL!!!!!

It's Father's Day

And I saw my dad yesterday in San Diego. It was nice to go down there. I love my home town. I miss it a lot. Took him out to lunch along w/ my aunt & we had seafood, boy was it good. We ended up at Cabrillo National Monument. Here are a couple of pics...

The marine layer was still hanging around so it's a little hard to see everything clearly, but it's still a beautiful city. We got home late last night and my 2 kids are STILL asleep so I had a chance to write here. It's already hot outside and it's only 8:20AM. Not sure what we'll do today. Maybe the kids will swim in our little blow up pool. I wish I didn't have to go to work tomorrow but alas, I do.

Friday, June 13, 2008

I should be working. But I am not. This trial thing is really annoying. At least I didn't have to drive to Los Angeles today to give my US Attorney a simple DVD disc. It's only 12:20PM and I am ready to go home. All the big bosses are here at my office (not in my particular office thank god!) so I am laying low. Good thing I didn't wear flip-flops to work like I sometimes do.

I am going to go try and find a way to disappear for the rest of the day I think. The trial preparation stuff for me is just about done. My computer forensics guy has it harder I think. Poor guy.

I am earning my $ now

Oh man....the last guy I arrested on 5/1/08 for possession of CP is now wanting to go to court. What a DUMBASS I am going to destroy him in court. The only bad thing is now I am SO busy at work. I mean, I should have known this would happen. It's not the first time I have done the court thing, but it's been awhile. Anyway, it gets confusing with the computer stuff. Images and hash values and file names, etc. It's boring and complicated so I wont elaborate. The reason I am so busy getting ready for the trial is that its on 6/24! Yes, that is 2008 I am talking about. I think he'll plead at the last min. & I would have done a lot of work for nothing. Well, maybe not for nothing. Once he sees my hand of cards I think he's going to plead. I hope. His defense atty. was supposed to come by my office last night & see some videos we got off the defendant's computer and I had to arrange childcare since I would be there late. Well wouldn't you know--the jackass didn't even bother to call much less show up. Fucking defense attorneys. I hope none are reading this! If so, I am sorry but I have a problem w/ someone who can defend a person who likes child porn.

As for home life, everything there is good. Recently had a landscaper put sprinklers in and do some other stuff. I didn't have the guts to tell him he did sort of a shitty job and now I am going to end up paying $1,200 for the shitty job. I mean, the sprinklers work but it wasn't quite what I wanted. Maybe somewhat of a language barrier and all but the guy does speak English for god's sake. I am bummed I have to part w/ so much $ all at once. Oh well.

Samantha this morning actually put 3 words together. I wanted to put these cute sandals on her that light up and she said "don't want those!" I love these little sandals but she doesn't like wearing them for some reason. She is now really into Dora the Explorer since the kids @ daycare like Dora. I don't have a problem w/ that, but now I got to go get the kid a friggin' Dora doll since she's attached to the one at daycare now. I guess there could be worse things for a kid to like, right?

Well, I am off to work again. Unfortunately it'll probably be another busy day. What a sin on a Friday to be busy. Especially for a government employee! :)

Wednesday, June 11, 2008

Oh my god I totally forgot to comment on last week's search warrant and yours truly being the team leader...

Well, it sucked to tell you the truth. I hate being in charge. Its also a little harder being the one in charge when you know you're dealing with seasoned agents. By seasoned I mean all of them have been doing this longer than I have. Communicating w/ the boys up in the helicopter via radio was the hardest. I hate sounding like a dork. I thought I did but no one else seemed to think I was a dork. Hmmm....

The case agent thanked me later on and said I did a good job. That was nice. He and I used to get along really well and then I just don't know what happened. Things changed I guess. Maybe me getting married and having a kid made me less interesting. Why would that make someone less interesting?

Well, I just wanted to mention my team leadership abilities (snicker...) and I sure hope I don't have to do it again for a long time!
Oh my gosh, I am such a loser. I really was gonna try and do this every day but its like a week later or something. Today is mine and my DH's 2nd wedding anniversary, yay! Too bad he's sailing the 7 seas w/the Navy right now. Blah. My stepson asked how we were going to celebrate the anniversary and I was taken aback. I guess its kind of nice that he thinks of it as "our" anniversary like meaning "our family" and not mine and DH's getting married. I suppose he's right since its now been 2 years since I joined his family!

Samantha is such a brat sometimes. She's only 20 mos. old going on 2 already. With my niece Carlee I always thought she was so sweet & funny when she was 2. Maybe that's cause she wasn't MINE and I got to go home and be by myself. My cousin and I have always thought Carlee was great at 2. Samantha--not so much I can already tell. Oh well, I still love that little squirt though. She is SO cute even when she's being a brat.

I should be working right now since I am at work but I really don't feel like it. I keep wondering when this job is going to make me go crazy. Will I need counseling since dealing with pedophiles and/or those who love child pornography? Would you blame me if I did? Hummmph.

Anyway, not much else happening. I have been craving adult company lately since I am left with conversing w/ my 10 year old or my 1 1/2 year old or the 16 yr. old next door who watches my 10 yr. old after school. All my friends have kids and busy lives and so do I. I kinda miss Robert being home. Gee, only 5 more months to go...

Since my life is so boring I wonder if I'll even need to post anything! Well, Father's Day is coming up and I'll spend the day w/ my pops in San Diego w/ the kids too. I miss that place.

Ciao for now...

Whoa I have no idea what I just got myself into

Well, here it is, because I got hooked right away with the idea and the reading of someone else's blog, I just HAD to create one of my own. Just like that. This crap's gonna be boring....

I dunno if anyone will read this but just in case they do, here's a little bit about me....

I love to abbreviate

I do and like to curse

I hate being censored however I am tactful when need be

I have horrible punctuation skills. I know where a period goes, but not a comma. Pardon me.

I may reference God for something or even say "God, I wish it would cool off" etc, it doesn't necessarily mean that I believe in God or do not believe in God. It's just a figure of speech! If you really wanna know what I believe in, ask me.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my baby girl to death. She is the reason I breathe. You know, she's been a brat lately but I still love her. I'll post pictures if I can. I don't even really know what the hell I am doing here w/ this blog thing.

I work quite an unorthodox job for a woman, even in today's times. My job makes my life really hard--physically, emotionally and totally mentally. Sometimes I wonder if I'll survive it. In case you are wondering I work for the Federal government. No, that's not why my job's hard. The reason is I work in a group that investigates the worst crimes against children--child pornography offenses. Now, if were not a mother it may not be as tough, but I AM a mom and it makes it 100x worse I think.

I grew up in lovely San Diego, CA & wish I still lived there but my job took me elsewhere.

I have a wonderful husband who's in the Navy and is currently gone for the next 5 months. He has been gone for 1 month now and we miss him here at home but we're surviving.

I have a wonderful 10 yr. old step son who really is a good kid, I got pretty lucky when I joined his family I think. I am totally still learning on how to be a mom. I have no idea what I am doing but the kids are still alive so....so far so good!

I have great parents who like many, are divorced. My mama remarried when I was like 11 or 12 and I really love my step dad. They had no other kids. My pops still lives in San Diego, lucky guy. He is retired from the Navy. Come to think of it, so is my step dad. I married a guy who'll retire from the Navy as well. Must run in the family! :) Unfortunately my parents live far away.

I have a half brother who I know but never grew up with. He is 4 yrs. older than me. My mom was married before my dad and had my brother at an early age and could not raise him in the environment she was in so he grew up w/ his paternal grandparents. His dad is a total asshole. I wonder why my mom didn't get him back when she met my dad and they could've raised him along w/ me? I never knew he existed until I was around 10 yrs. old. Probably more drama there than I ever wanna know. He does very well for himself now and is surprisingly sane and does well in life. He's cool.

All of my schooling was in San Diego until I went to college which I decided that I was not going to excel to try to get into UCSD or USD. Therefore, I went out of state and went to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. WHOO HOO!!!!! It was a great time! I wish I could relive those days. I was somewhat of a spoiled child/adult. I stayed home until I was like 23, went off to Vegas and graduated at the ripe old age of 25 and turning 26 later that year. I did not attain my chosen career (which I guess is the job I have now) until I was a mere 33 yrs. old. God, I got a lot of years left to work. Ugh. I do not plan to pursue a Master's degree cause I really hate school (lazy) and it won't get me diddly shit as far as more pay at work so why go through the trouble? I make good $ w/ a bachelor's degree. My mom's 59 working on 2 Master's at the same time. I think she's an imposter taking the place of my mom cause I don't know why someone I am directly related to has that sort of ambition--especially when she's at retirement age!

I'm 37 going on 57 I swear. My body is like feeling its age already. Guess I am the only one to blame. I never exercise--I hate to--and I eat whatever I want which is junk food, aka shit. Seriously, after having Samantha I cannot get the 40 lbs. off. I don't make it any easier by the way I eat & not exercise. I hate to be told what to eat and I hate to exercise. Maybe I'll always be fat for the rest of my life. At least my DH likes me the way I am! Did I mention that I hate to exercise?

What else? How 'bout some advice I gleaned from the years 2002-2005? DO NOT I repeat, DO NOT ever date a married man. It's amazing how smart you think you are, you know, "yeah I went to college and I am a successful woman" and "yeah, I'm independant", but at the same time "I want to be loved". Oh here's a cute guy paying some attention to me. Never mind that his wife is going to have their baby a month or 2 after meeting him and being totally into him and then finding something like that out. His response? Oh I thought I told you! Ok dude. What's even lamer than that is that I believed him and kept seeing him and went through HELL loving that man. I am such a dumbass! Yeah, he ended up getting a divorce from her, not because of me. I kicked him to the curb long before that, but now some other stupid broad (who he was seeing at the same time as me I later found out!) gets to deal w/ his bullshit. She's friggin' nasty as hell too. Better her than me is all I can say. Ugh...

I got a cat. Yep, and 2 other cats and 3 other dogs. Too many pets in my opinion. I love my cat a lot. I like him a lot more than all of my coworkers. Seriously. My coworkers are jackasses. Anyway, my cat's 14 and I am really bummed that he's that old. Where does the time go? I adopted this cutie when he was 4 at a shelter in Rancho Santa Fe of all places. He has been a joy ever since. Except when he's meowing really loud at 3AM for no reason. That's when I wanna strangle him. The dogs are my husband's. Ok, I'll fess up. One is mine. He's pretty good. He's a real dumbass though. I got him when I lived alone. He's a huge ass German Shepherd and I think he's gay. Anyway, he looks scary, that's all that counts. The other 2 dogs are pains in my ass too. The 2 other cats are his as well and I kicked them outside. They do not know a litter box is where they're supposed to defecate and take a pee. So, out they went...I like my house clean.

So, I am sure you're completely bored out of your mind. Maybe you expected something really friggin' interesting w/ a blog by the name of "Daynamite". I stole that form an old college roommate that used to call me that. I always thought it was very witty.

Tomorrow we're serving a search warrant on some piece of shit's house. I call him that cause he's most likely got child porn on his computer. They made me the friggin' team leader for this operation and I am nervous. Did I mention that my coworkers are jackasses? Not that they don't know what they're doing as far as the job goes, they're just jerks in general. I hate being the only girl in a sea of guys in the workplace. It was actually my dream before I actually had this job, I thought "Oh if I work w/ dudes, there's less drama". Yeah, well I never bargained for a chauvanistic (<---spelling on that one?) workplace. The respect factor is low. Oh where's Aretha Franklin to sing for me when I need her? :) Anyway, the only way to get good at the team leader thing is to just do it I suppose. I really don't want to. Whatever. I'm more of a follower than a leader. How unambitious is that!!!! It's the truth. Tell me where to go and what to do and I'll be there and do it. No bullshit with me. Maybe I wasn't cut out to be a cop. Is everyone good at something in their lives? I mean, do we all possess some sort of useful talent or is that for a select few? I am still trying to find out what I am good at and then make a living doing it. Sure I can psell, ha ha I mean spell but damn, that's only useful for writing reports and not looking like a complete dork. I'm a good mom but I don't want any more kids. We can't afford it and the way the world's going these days.....what's it going to be like for my baby girl and my step son when they're older?

I wish I was more humorous or wrote well, but this is just me being frank. Well, Dayna, not frank but you catch my drift. If you even got this far, I commend you. You are a glutton for punishment. Thanks for reading and I'll try to have some more interesting things to say in the future. Maybe I'll let you know how my team leadership skills came out. If I do really crappy, then you won't read about it....and if I don't figure out this blog thing then I just wasted a crap load of time typing! :)
